Meditation Workshop in Lagos 24th August 2014

Using Art to access the medicinal potency of scriptures for wellness and optimum performance.

We decided to introduce the "Christian Art Meditation" workshop which we have practiced formally in the UK  for the past 10 years to 15 years to our Lagos audience this summer. In the past 3 years, we have offered it as an intervention at the Mind Cafe both as a preventative complementary medicine as well as a treatment to restore emotional well being. It is available to any member of the public on Sundays from 4 to 6.30 pm at our Hackney Studios for a donation fee you find appropriate. We also run private sessions for individuals for a fixed fee.

The over flow level.....we had to move people to this space because it was oversubscribed

The venue at Terra Kulture Lagos could conveniently sit about 25 people especially for the practical session. We had to move some of the participants to an over flow space. The outcome of this debut workshop exceeded all my expectations both in attendance and creative output.

It is unbelievable that non of these people are trained artists.

 The enthusiasm was infectious....

I might as well share some of the theoretical aspects of the workshop.......

"The big news about your brain is...

It is amazing

It is plastic

It can learn new tricks

It changes all the time

Two ways to activate changes in the brain:

1. Repetitive practice.

2. Having novel experiences such as learning a new language, taking an adventurous trip, try using the opposite hand to write, juggling, knitting etc. When neurons become activated, an opportunity arises for change. They start firing in response to new stimuli.

Two powerful ways that we can positively change our brain:

1. Meditation

2. Imagination (focused attention plus visualization)

In this workshop, our focus was on a passage of scripture: Philippians 4:8

That's what all these beautiful paintings are based on.

This was a very encouraging outcome. I will definitely run future workshops in Lagos...........
